| Regional Lockbox Consortium Of RealtorŪ Associations Conversion To Sentrilock Begins |
|
A Regional Lockbox Consortium comprised of 21 REALTOR® boards, organized for the purpose of upgrading their lockbox systems, made a decision late last year to select Sentrilock over competing lockbox systems, including Supra.
REALTOR® boards within the consortium, representing associations throughout Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C., including the Dulles Area Association of REALTORS® (DAAR) and the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®, have the option of participating in the consortium agreement with SentriLock.
Although the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® converts in the fourth quarter of 2008 and the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®, Prince William Association of REALTORS® and Greater Piedmont Area Association of REALTORS® are scheduled to convert in early 2009, DAAR will not participate in the consortium agreement due to an existing contract with Supra which expires in 2011.
For DAAR members, staying with Supra will allow members to continue to use existing lockboxes while maintaining reciprocity with neighboring regions such as Fredericksburg, Clarke County and Frederick County, Virginia and Jefferson County, West Virginia.
With the conversion of NVAR expected in early 2009, DAAR and NVAR plan to explore ways to minimize inconvenience for members who conduct business in both jurisdictions. Although details are not finalized, the associations are discussing reciprocity agreements. One option may include creating a "key only membership" that would allow you to access their lockbox system for a reasonable fee. .
In anticipation of a reciprocity agreement and preparation for regional conversions to Sentrilock, DAAR has developed Frequently Asked Questions: Regional Lockbox Consortium Conversion to Sentrilock for members.
Please note that reciprocity with associations in Maryland will not be available after their conversion. Anyone wishing access to properties in Maryland will have to visit an association in Maryland to obtain access. If a lockbox was purchased in Maryland, it will need to be de-programmed by the association where it was purchased within 30 days of their conversion or the lockbox will no longer be operable. Regardless of the place of purchase, it will no longer be programmable after that date. Although pending, a decision by the DAAR Board of Directors to no longer service AEII boxes after a certain date is anticipated.
There may also be re-programming fees if these lockboxes have been purchased in neighboring jurisdictions.
DAAR will issue updates on this issue and conversion dates of local REALTOR® associations when we receive them. Please contact Jeanette Newton at 703/777-2468 or jnewton@dullesarea.com if you have any questions.
