Community Service Goals and Activities Goals: To facilitate and encourage DAAR Members participation in community events and volunteer opportunities and to provide financial support to local charities, with a specific emphasis on organizations that provide shelter to area residents and/or benefit children. Supported Organizations:
Christmas in April is an annual event in which volunteers gather on the last Saturday in April to preserve and revitalize local houses and communities, ensuring that low-income homeowners, from the elderly and disabled to families with children, live in warmth, safety, and independence. Check out Realtors in Action during Christmas in April 2006.
The Good Shepherd Alliance has been serving the homeless and those living in poverty in the Dulles-area for over 20 years. They address all areas of poverty, including case management, life skills, education, and emergency needs.
Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) Youth and Children's Services provides crisis intervention, support and advocacy for youth and children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence and abuse.
Loudoun Cares serves all Loudoun County residents, especially those with low to moderate incomes, by providing single number access to the county's health and human services support agencies. They are working to develop a multi-tenant nonprofit center that provides affordable and stable work environments, increased cost efficiencies, and an environment of collaboration to help charitable organizations become more efficient and effective.
Loudoun Families for Children provides homes for children in crisis, serving as a temporary foster care. The organization also operates a mentor program for at-risk children and provides funds for children to attend summer camp, get tutoring and purchase essentials.
Volunteers of America's Transitional Housing Shelter is a two-year transitional shelter for homeless families and single women designed to bridge the gap between homelessness and independent living.
The Reality Store – Virginia Cooperative Services Their goal is to promote youth financial literacy. They organize one day “life game” type events for graduating seniors, at various local high schools through out the year. They set up booths and provide all game materials for the event. These are manned by volunteers to teach life skills such as, banking, housing, credit cards, child care, clothing, etc. No special training needed to volunteer. For more information, please
